Lead Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist

NHS AfC: Band 8b

Would you like to work in an organisation that sits in the top 10 best NHS Mental Health, Learning Disability and Community Services Trust  to work for.  This ranking is based on staff feedback in the 2023 NHS Staff Survey.

Job overview

We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and innovative Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to provide clinical leadership to our team of inpatient psychologists working in our older people’s wards at Chertsey, Epsom and Guildford. Our inpatient units provide specialist care to older people with mental health problems and/or dementia.

The post is based at The Meadows 24 bed inpatient unit in Epsom, where you will lead the psychology provision for the ward in your clinical sessions.

We are a friendly and supportive department with a strong culture of furthering professional development and providing training, such as the Trust Leadership & Management Development Programme (ILM Accredited Level 5). We are open to discussions should there be additional support to consider for this application.

We encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds. We are open to applications from those looking for part-time hours as well as full-time.

Main duties of the job

There is a strong multidisciplinary approach across our inpatient services, where psychology is seen as a valuable resource. You will be working collaboratively with the inpatient teams and the senior leadership team to develop the role of psychology within the service and help to maintain a culture of compassionate and person-centred care.

You will ensure our team of qualified Psychologists and Assistant Psychologists are providing evidence-based, high quality care for the inpatient services. As a compassionate leader, you will ensure the team feel engaged, valued, and supported to develop in their roles.

The Meadows has three units for people with dementia and mental health needs. You will conduct psychological assessments, formulation, therapeutic intervention, and neuropsychological assessment and consultation, as well as support the ward teams through training, supervision, reflective practice and complex case discussions.

As a Principal Psychologist, you will contribute to the leadership and development of the wider Older People’s Psychology department as part of a team of senior Psychologists.

You will be professionally and clinically supervised by the Lead Consultant Psychologist for Older People’s services, and receive specialist neuropsychology supervision from a Clinical Neuropsychologist.
