Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Be expected to provide teaching to FY1s, nursing staff and undergraduate students.
Be expected to participate in audits and research.
Perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation where practicable with their colleagues both senior and junior.
On-call will be covered by a shift system. Average hours will be up to 48.

Experience

Essential criteria

Satisfactory completion of foundation programme training (including FY2) (or equivalent certified evidence of competence) at the time of taking up post
Competent in basic procedures e.g. CPR, infection control, physical examination, history taking etc.
Able to prioritise clinical need
Aware of own limitations, consults senior colleagues appropriately and knows when to ask for help
Understands the principles of patient confidentiality and data protection
Understands the need for and appreciates the role of audit in clinical practice
Understands the principles of clinical governance - ensures patients are not put at risk
Understanding of the basic principles of research
Knowledge of the consent process and understand the principles of consent

As a Senior Assessor, you have the opportunity to focus on delivering direct care. Furthermore, if you have the relevant experience and skills, you can take on an additional responsibility. We limit this to one responsibility to allow for focused time on that topic, rather than having your time stretched too thinly. When taking on an additional responsibility, your case volume is reduced, making time available for this focused time.

For Senior Assessors, additional responsibility options include supporting more complex cases, ensuring quality assurance, providing training, facilitating family engagement, and contributing to pathway development.
