An exciting opportunity has arisen at Frimley Park Hospital for a Band 8A Education and Training Lead Pharmacist.

We are seeking a friendly, supportive and motivated pharmacist passionate about education and staff development.

This highly rewarding role focuses on front-line training and offers the chance to make a real impact.

You will lead the design and delivery of training for Trainee Pharmacists, oversee university placements, and work with external partners to ensure excellent learning experiences.

You will also contribute to evolving pharmacy training programmes and support education for the wider healthcare team.

The role involves collaboration with colleagues across Frimley Park and Wexham Park sites to deliver innovative and effective training strategies. Some cross-site travel is required.

Main duties of the job

  • Frimley Park Hospital Pharmacy—known as the “Frimley Family”—is a diverse, friendly and supportive team dedicated to delivering excellent patient care.
  • The post holder will lead and manage Trainee Pharmacists, develop undergraduate training opportunities and contribute to teaching across the multidisciplinary team, including medical, nursing and allied health professionals.
  • Working within a dynamic clinical environment, they will be supported by the Principal Education and Training Pharmacist to enhance their own teaching and leadership skills.
  • The role also includes responsibility for an acute clinical area, providing direct clinical pharmacy services to maintain up-to-date knowledge and ensure training reflects real practice.
  • Participation in weekend, late-night and bank holiday rotas is required, with strong team support and commitment to work-life balance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • You must be registered as a Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Applications are welcome from all sectors of pharmacy practice, including hospital, community, primary care, industry and academia.
  • This is a full time post, with commitment required to evening, weekend and Bank Holiday duties as per rota.
  • Part time positions will also be considered.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Post-graduate diploma / MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Pharmacy degree (Master level 4 years)
  • GPhC Registered Pharmacist (or equivalent EU professional qualification)
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching / Education qualification
  • Independent pharmacist Prescriber, or be willing to complete training as Independent Pharmacist Prescriber
  • Membership of RPS
  • Higher qualification (E.g. MSc, PhD)

PROFESSIONAL/SPECIALIST/FUNCTIONAL EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Experience of teaching MPharm students and/or pre-registration pharmacist trainees
  • Significant and current experience of providing a UK hospital clinical pharmacy service at NHS AFC band 7 level or above
  • Supervision of undergraduates in a hospital pharmacy setting
  • Experience in the provision of clinical pharmacy to acute medicine patients
  • Protocol development
  • Practical experience of audit
  • Ability to change systems while taking into account the needs of others (change management)
  • Evidence of up to date CPD in clinical pharmacy
Desirable criteria
  • Experience as a tutor for pre-registration pharmacist trainees
  • Supervision of audit or research projects (e.g. undergraduate, pre-registration or diploma students)
  • Experience of one-to-one, small and large group teaching, assessment and feedback
  • Management of staff including recruitment, appraisal
