NHS AfC: Band 8d

Job overview

We are looking for a talented individual to join as our Associate Director of Procurement reporting to the Deputy Chief Financial Officer. This comes at an exciting time for the Trust as the role will include the procurement activities for the New Frimley Park Hospital.

This post will be based at Frimley although it is a cross-site role with responsibilities at all three of the Trust’s sites. The post manages a Procurement team of 70+ staff across Category Management, Buying, Systems and Supply Chain and plays a crucial role in helping the Trust deliver high-quality care to our local community.

You will work alongside executive directors and the senior leadership team to provide the overall direction, vision, strategy and business plan for the Procurement and Supply Chain functions, including supporting the development within the ICS and beyond.

This key senior position will require finely tuned commercial skills to develop a high performing procurement service that is seen as responsive and offering the best in class commercial and procurement operations.

The role must ensure alignment to the national procurement agenda, adherence to the changing procurement legislation as well as acting as a focal point of contact for key stakeholders. You will need to provide leadership, direction and support to ensure high quality contracting outcomes are achieved with the objective of minimising risk, maximising value for money and driving efficiencies.

Main duties of the job

We are open to hearing from individuals from a range of backgrounds with a successful track record of leading procurement work in large organisations. Experience in the NHS is not essential but may be useful.

The individual may be already operating in an Associate Director role or looking to step into their first director position. The key skills required to be successful in the role will include:

  • Member of Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS)
  • Extensive demonstrable experience of effectively managing procurement teams at all levels, including senior management
  • Politically astute with honed communication, influencing and inter-personal skill
  • Significant and advanced Procurement proven knowledge in the Public or Private sector with expert understanding of the technical requirements of public sector procurement
  • Project management - the ability to manage large complex collaborative projects
  • Has resilience, patience, authority, gravitas, and an ability to influence widely
  • Highly motivated and driven to deliver change at pace with rigour
  • Strong literacy and MS 365 skills ensuring large amounts of qualitative and quantitative data can be distilled and communicated in a simple, effective way.
