Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic doctor at the ST1+ level to join the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust as an Undergraduate Clinical Teaching Fellow. The position has been created to enhance the teaching of Medical and Physician Associate (PA) students, with employment expected to commence on August 5th, 2026.

The Trust plays a significant role in medical student teaching for students from City, St George’s University of London, and Southampton University, as well as PA students from the University of Surrey. From September 2025, the Trust also welcomed Year 2 students from the University of Surrey Medical School.

Main duties of the job

This is one of 14 fixed-term (12-month) Clinical Teaching Fellow posts in Medical Education at RSFT. The role is full-time and includes the opportunity to undertake a fully funded Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Education (or equivalent) at an institution of the candidate’s choice, with dedicated study time.


50% of the post holder’s time will be spent on teaching, simulation activities and CPD. The remaining 50% of time will be used for clinical work in the Emergency Department (ED), Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) and/or Ambulatory Emergency Care (AEC).

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC registration
  • Successful completion of foundation scheme or demonstration of equivalent competencies
  • Demonstrable post-foundation experience in emergency medicine or equivalent specialty e.g. Acute medicine
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in leading medical simulation based teaching
  • Higher post-graduate certificate/diploma/masters in education
  • Additional postgraduate qualification such as MSc, MD or PhD

Experience

Essential criteria
  • NHS experience
  • Previous experience of teaching undergraduate medical students/other clinical students
  • Competent in procedures e.g. CPR, infection control, physical examination, history taking etc (capabilities and competencies appropriate to level of clinical training/experience)
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of leadership in education
  • Audit, presentations or publications in medical education
