Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To act as expert advice for adult safeguarding activity within the Trust, both in the acute and the community settings. This will include Deprivation of Liberties Safeguards (DoLS)/ Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS) and the Mental Capacity Act (MCA). The post holder will support the development and review of adult safeguarding policies, guidance and training packages in line with relevant legislation and the Adult Safeguarding Roles and Competencies for Health Care Staff (2018)

The post holder will contribute to developing, monitoring and maintaining robust adult safeguarding arrangements and data collection to support internal and external assurance processes.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

Registered nurse/ midwife/ other professional (AHP/ social worker). Current registration with professional body, educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience.
Educated to degree level or equivalent
Teaching and assessing qualification Mentorship
Evidence of further study at Masters level or equivalent experience
Evidence of continued professional development

Desirable criteria

Evidence of further study in assessing/safeguarding adults

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Previous experience of working in Adult Safeguarding
Experience of working in a Health or Social care setting
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, peers and MDT as well as external agencies such as Adult Social Care and Police
Experience of working with people from vulnerable groups
Demonstrates knowledge of safeguarding adults legislation, policies and practices
Good working knowledge of MCA and DoLS application

As a Senior Assessor, you have the opportunity to focus on delivering direct care. Furthermore, if you have the relevant experience and skills, you can take on an additional responsibility. We limit this to one responsibility to allow for focused time on that topic, rather than having your time stretched too thinly. When taking on an additional responsibility, your case volume is reduced, making time available for this focused time.

For Senior Assessors, additional responsibility options include supporting more complex cases, ensuring quality assurance, providing training, facilitating family engagement, and contributing to pathway development.
