The Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting an enthusiastic, band 6 Midwife to join our Outstanding CQC Maternity Service. The Infant Feeding Team provides an enhanced level of support and advice to women and babies during their feeding journey.
This position is open to midwives who are interested in working in a small team that is passionate about building trusting relationships with the women they care for and providing care focusing on all aspects of infant feeding. The team provide care in clinics and on the postnatal ward in the hospital to ensure each woman has a personalised approach to care.
You must hold NMC midwifery registration. You will be expected to be able to show evidence of current practice/updating. IBCLC qualification is beneficial but not compulsory, opportunity to undertake this training can be offered.
Main duties of the job
To work as part of the multi-professional team to maintain the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) Gold award, working to ensure the standards set by UNICEF BFI are followed and audited across the maternity episode. To maintain the high standard of feeding information and support to families during the antenatal and postnatal period.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post-holder will work as part of the feeding team to deliver a high quality feeding service. The role will support the Infant feeding lead and Infant feeding audit midwife in regular auditing of staff and service users to ensure the standards of the UNICEF BFI are maintained. The post holder will be expected to participate in antenatal and postnatal education both in person and virtual. To be involved in staff and student training and assessment of Infant feeding competencies.
In addition to the above, the post holder will be expected to have or gain knowledge of frenotomy and run a clinic to support the needs of the service. To provide midwifery expertise to support the smooth running of the infant feeding service, to include leading breastfeeding drop-in and referral clinics, facilitating individualised antenatal and postnatal appointments.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Midwife – Part 10 of the register
- Shows consolidation of experience through achievement of Competency Skills in midwifery.
- Diploma level or above midwifery qualification
Desirable criteria
- Teaching and Assessing qualification/ Mentor preparation course
- Preferred qualified or working towards International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience as a practising midwife
- Must have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy/national guidance/CQC/ and appreciate the implications of this on engagement
- Member of relevant professional body
Desirable criteria
- Experience of organising own workload and leading where appropriate
- Experience of managing a ward area
- Experience of working within the community setting
