Applications are invited for a full time Post CCT Clinical Fellow in Robotic Oesophago-Gastric (OG) Surgery at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, Guildford. This is a one year post commencing Wednesday 1st April 2026, specifically intended for senior trainees seeking to consolidate their training in robotic OG cancer, robotic complex benign, and emergency OG surgery.
The Royal Surrey Oesophago-Gastric unit is well supported with 5 consultant OG surgeons, 1 Fellow (this position), 2 SpRs, 2 SHOs and 2 F1s. There are 5 upper GI clinical nurse specialists, 5 dedicated OG dietitians, an excellent physiotherapy team and exceptional anaesthetic/intensive care support. The Trust offers full step down care for major resections and emergency cases where required, and a dedicated upper GI ward. Experience in the use of standardised enhanced recovery pathways will also be gained.
The successful applicant will attend the weekly multi-disciplinary team meeting, out-patient clinics, therapeutic endoscopy and theatre sessions, and take part in the General Surgery SpR on-call rota. There will specifically be opportunities to undertake training in radical robotic OG cancer surgery in three dedicated three session robotic lists per week. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in audits arranged by the firms and will have the opportunity to undertake research and teaching for undergraduate students.

Main duties of the job
This post is suitable for a post-CCT Clinical Fellow wishing to further their training in robotic OG cancer surgery. This is a one year fixed term post from April 2026 – April 2027.
The successful applicant will have responsibility for day-to-day management of the in-patients, attend outpatient clinics, and receive training in robotic oesophago-gastric cancer surgery, therapeutic endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound. The successful applicant will also be involved in research and teaching activities. The appointee will also be part of the on-call rota (SpR), for surgical emergencies.

- Appropriate operating experience as evidenced by log book summary
