Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Ophthalmic specialist nurse practitioner to join our existing dedicated friendly team of staff within the ophthalmic department of the Royal Surrey Foundation Trust.
We are looking for a 1st Level Registered Nurse with 5yrs post registration ophthalmology experience, who can demonstrate competence in Intra - Vitreal Injection, Pre-operative Assessment/Biometry and pre/postoperative review of patients who have undergone cataract surgery. You should also have advanced ophthalmology clinical skills and an up-to-date knowledge base.
This position will clinically support the ophthalmology department and will be responsible for transforming the way in which we provide ophthalmology services at The Royal Surrey Foundation Hospital through application of Royal College and national recommendations such as Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) to deliver a sustainable and modern ophthalmology department.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for the delivery of safe, effective care leading to an excellent experience for patients and carers by;
Being responsible for the strategic delivery of high quality patient centred care within the speciality along with supporting the ambitions of the Trusts core objectives and strategies
Be responsible for setting the standards within the clinical team and for ensuring that the environment allows the workforce to feel supported to deliver safe and effective care
Review patient pathways ensuring that patients experience a positive experience while under our care, which also drives effectiveness and efficiency in service delivery
Lead as a driver for change, monitoring and improving standards through supervision, evidence based practice, clinical audit, research and education.
Lead in ensuring that the workforce has the skills and knowledge to continuously evolve the service to meet the needs of our patients via research and education

The post holder must be flexible in working between 0800hrs and 18:00hrs, Monday to Friday, subject to change with the ophthalmic service
Candidates who do not have experience in injections are welcomed to apply as well, but they will be remunerated at a Band 6 level. We will provide training in injections and upon successful completion/formal assessment the post holder will be uplifted to Band 7.

Essential criteria
- First Level Qualification RGN
- Evidence of Continuing Education and Development
- PG Cert : Clinical Ophthalmic Practice
- Mentorship/teaching and assessing course or prepared to work towards
- Management Qualification
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Member of NMC professional body
- Relevant post registration experience working at band 6/7 or equivalent in ophthalmology
- Experience of running nurse led injection clinics
- Experience in running pre-op assessment clinics
- Experience triaging emergency referrals
- Experience in developing services
- Experience with research and audit
Desirable criteria
- Experience with running post op cataract clinics (DORA)
- Experience working in ophthalmic emergency clinics

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
