Job overview

The Trust is seeking to appoint a full time, Locum Resident Consultant Paediatrician with an interest/expertise in Endocrinology for a fixed term period of 6 months.

This post consists of a mixture of outpatient and inpatient activity with the latter organised to improve consultant presence in the hospital outside office hours. Outpatient work will depend on the special interest of the successful applicant. Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work less than full-time or in a job-share capacity.

You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a license to practice and be on the Specialist Register, or be within 6 months of attaining your CCT or equivalent at the interview stage.

 

Main duties of the job

The Consultant will be expected to work with the Clinical Director in Paediatrics and other Consultants to promote the highest standards in paediatric medical care. They will be expected to:

  • Be enthusiastic to develop the service and promote improved multi-disciplinary and multi-agency services for children.
  • Promote the team approach to children’s care, having due regard for the linking of acute, community, social, education and voluntary services.
  • Partake in Consultant appraisal and revalidation.
  • Be the lead Local Paediatric Consultant for Endocrinology.

We have regular student placements from the University of Surrey, Southampton and some Physicians Associates. The post-holder will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full registration and a license to practice with the GMC
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • Provider status in APLS/EPLS and NLS or equivalent, or willingness to obtain within 6 months of interview date
  • Higher medical qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Appraisal qualification
  • Qualification in leadership and/ or clinical management.
  • Teaching/Education Qualification
  • Educational Supervisor qualification
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Paediatrics (or relevant specialty) via CCT (CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview date) or Portfolio Pathway

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstable experience working as a resident working in specifically in Paediatric endocrine
  • Broad general Paediatric experience
  • Significant evidence of experience in clinical leadership
  • Relevant NHS experience
Desirable criteria
  • Paediatric endocrine spin module
  • Community child health and UK experience
