Pharmacy Aseptic Production Technician

Job overview

A new opportunity has become available for an experienced technician in Aseptic Services.  The successful applicant will become part of a busy team working within a licensed aseptic unit offering a high quality service to both internal and external customers. The unit has facilities for providing cytotoxic chemotherapy, monoclonal antibodies and gene therapy.

As the applicant will be responsible for the supply of pharmaceuticals and supervise workload within the aseptic suite they should be organised and able to prioritise work effectively.  Accuracy, attention to detail and excellent communication skills are essential requirements for this post. Training skills are desirable.

There is a structured training programme within aseptic services where you are encouraged to develop to your full potential.

All applicants for the post are required to have experience of aseptic dispensing and manufacture either within the hospital setting or industry. 

 

Please note that the job interview will take place on-site; remote interviews will only be considered under extenuating circumstances.

•    Responsible for overseeing production within the Aseptic Suite
•    Responsible for performing environmental monitoring within the Aseptic Suite
•    Responsible for undertaking the aseptic manufacture of pharmaceuticals
•    Responsible for stock control of drugs and disposables for the Aseptic Suite

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Manufacture a wide range of aseptically prepared products for use within the Trust and by external customers. The department has an annual workload of approximately 50,000 items.
•    Undertake effective disinfection of the unit and products to ensure a sterile environment for product manufacture.
•    Take microbiological samples to demonstrate effective environmental control.
•    Partake in the manufacture of drugs for up to 40 on-going clinical trials. 
•    Perform pre and in-process production checks.
•    The post holder is guided by departmental procedures, good manufacturing practice and hospital policies.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent by experience plus underpinning knowledge of specialist areas of pharmaceutical manufacturing and aseptic preparation from BTEC specialist course
Desirable criteria
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Sufficient relevant experience within aseptic services
Desirable criteria
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of stock management systems
  • Experience of dispensing medicinal to patients and departments
