Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to join the Inpatient Oncology at The Royal Surrey County Hospital.
The applicant must have a previous experience in the role of Physiotherapy Assistant / Physiotherapy Technical Instructor within acute NHS cancer/oncology/neuro care. Would be ideal for someone who does not have HCPC registration.
Candidates require excellent written and spoken English as well as excellent team working skills, adaptability and flexibility.
There is a requirement for flexible working as the service operates over 7 days and bank holidays on a rostered system.
The post may close early dependent on the number of applications received.

Main duties of the job
Provide routine Physiotherapy assessment and treatment sessions independently, as directed by team lead. Assist physiotherapy team to deliver a high quality and effective service within the acute hospital, community locations and patient’s homes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
• Assist qualified Physiotherapy staff in delivering a high quality and effective Physiotherapy service to patients.
• Treat patients according to department standards/protocols both individually and in group settings.
• Complete basic patient assessments independently, as directed by qualified Physiotherapists.
• Carry out and progress rehab plans as set by qualified Physiotherapists.
• Report back to Physiotherapists on progress of patients.
• Ensure the department/physio areas on ward are kept clean and tidy
• Stock take and inventory of physiotherapy equipment with Physiotherapy Assistants.
• Be willing to rotate to other clinical areas, including off site locations and/or patient homes.
• Be an active part of the 7 day working rota as required.
• Ensure ward books and stats are up to date.
• Be flexible to assist in other teams during times of staff shortage, including teams in community locations.
• Attend all relevant training as directed by team lead.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above (or equivalent)
- Knowledge and experience equivalent to NVQ 3 in a relevant specialty i.e. Health care

- Relevant physiotherapy assistant experience
- Successful completion of Physiotherapy Assistant competencies (or equivalent)
- Experience of working within the NHS
- Able to use assessment to create a treatment plan, follow through and discharge a patient autonomously
- Able to perform a basic assessment according to department guidelines
- Basic computer skills i.e. Microsoft applications
- Aware of implications of confidentiality
- Good written and spoken English
- Ability to manage own caseload and prioritise work
- Be able to work on own initiative and know when tasks are out of personal scope of practice
- Flexible to the needs of the service and can participate in 7 day rota
Desirable criteria
- Hospital systems knowledge i.e. Cerner
- Ability to problem solve and adapt to situations as they arise
- Able to work well with a multi-disciplinary team and have previous experience of this
- Previous teaching experience in order to assist with Physiotherapy Assistant training programme
