Job overview

We have a career developing opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated dietitian to join our paediatric dietetic team. Previous experience in this speciality is not essential and we are encouraging applications from those who may be considering specialising in Paediatrics

You will be a part of an award winning, proactive dietetic department at The Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust in Guildford. As an integral member of the MDT, you will have the opportunity to gain experience and develop your skills in the dietetic management of paediatric patients in a supportive environment with peer supervision and on the job training.

We are looking for someone who has good rapport with patients and staff and has an interest in Paediatrics. You will join our dietetic team at The Royal Surrey County Hospital. The post covers general paediatric inpatient and outpatient work. We need a team player who takes pride in providing an efficient and effective dietetic service.  You should have high-level communication skills, be effective in multidisciplinary team working and be able to deliver both group education and individual interventions. You will have the opportunity to be involved in audits and other service development initiatives within the dietetic department. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide clinical paediatric dietetic support to inpatients and outpatients, including direct access GP referrals to dietitian led clinics at The Royal Surrey Hospital.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide a nutrition and dietetic service for inpatients and outpatients referred for paediatric dietetic support across the Trust. The post holder will have support from other paediatric dietitians to  support patients in out-patient settings and those admitted to the paediatric ward and SCBU. Additionally, this post will provide dietetic input to relevant MDTs, and support for other Health Professionals in the Royal Surrey and surrounding Healthcare Units as required. 

You will join a forward thinking dietetic team who focuses on research and audit to promote clinically effective patient care.  We also undertake the training of students. This is an excellent opportunity in a supportive environment where you will be encouraged to develop both personally and professionally.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc in Dietetics or equivalent and registration with HCPC
  • Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development
  • Evidence of post-graduate learning and CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Post-graduate qualification
  • Member of the British Dietetics Association
  • Membership of specialist groups, e.g. Paediatric, DISC
  • Car driver with clean current driving licence

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of experience in a variety of dietetic cases and situations
  • Evidence of MDT work
  • Evidence of ability to manage complex clinical presentations
Desirable criteria
  • Post qualification experience including paediatrics
  • Experience of training/supporting others (including students) within specialist clinical area
