Job overview

The role of Senior Learning Disability Acute Liaison Nurse (ALN) is part of the wider SABP LD Acute & Primary Liaison Team, it is a Mon - Fri  37.5hrs pw position.  The successful candidate will support adults with a LD to access healthcare at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford.  Suitable for an experienced NMC registered nurse, we are keen to accept applications from LD Nurses, Adult Nurses or Mental Health Nurses & value skill mix. The successful candidate will be confident applying their specialist knowledge & skills leading to improved health care outcomes for adults with a LD.  The successful candidate will be supported through regular clinical & management supervision with yearly appraisal &  support from the wider team.

Main duties of the job

Supporting those with a LD 18 & over who may be inpatients, outpatients, planned admissions or unplanned admissions to access healthcare in the hospital.  Assessing, planning , implementing and evaluating your care. The successful candidate will link with the person, family members, paid support staff, hospital teams, the SABP LD division & partners ensuring the person receives appropriate, person centred care.

Striving towards 'mainstreaming'  the role includes providing  training in the hospital eg at staff induction/bespoke sessions as requested.

As Senior LD ALN you will be supervisee taking on line management for 1/2 junior team members.

As Senior LD Acute Liaison Nurse you will be involved in promoting the LD agenda within the hospital & SABP LD division in a range of workstreams.

  • NMC registered Nurse with at least 5 years experience
Desirable criteria
  • Valid driving licence and access to a vehicle to travel as part of role

Registration, educaton and experience

Essential criteria
  • Valid NMC registration nursing degree or suitable equivalent
  • 5 years of relevant post qualification experience
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Knowledge of current issues, including relevant legislation and practice for people with a learning disability
  • Leadership and supervisory experience
  • Experience of leading clinical practice/service development/project work
Desirable criteria
  • Practice Assessor and Practice Supervisor qualification
  • Additional academic qualification relevant to practice area
  • Experience of delivering training
  • Valid driving licence and access to vehicle for travel requirements of role
