Specialty Doctor in Oncology

Specialty Doctor

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Oncology Specialty Doctor to join the Oncology team at The Royal Surrey Cancer Centre at the Royal Surrey Hospital (RSH) for a fixed period of 6 months.

Here at the Royal Surrey, we aim to provide first class, high quality care for all of our patients in a friendly and professional setting.  Our services have received national recognition and praise and our patients benefit from the latest and most innovative treatments available, delivered by a team of committed and highly skilled staff.  You will be joining our team of 29 oncologists, supported by a team of Specialist Registrars, Specialty Doctors, SHOs, AHP’s and Specialist Nurses.

The successful applicant will be based at the RSH in Guildford providing a high level of medical care to the Oncology patients in the outpatient clinics.  The job plan will involve travelling to our local outreach partner oncology sites to provide clinic cover, as well as working on the Guildford site.

Main duties of the job

There will be an expectation to work within the tumour group teams, covering the service, where required.  This may require travelling to any of our outreach partner sites.  Excellent communication and team working will be required with the tumour teams.    The post holder will also be required to cover regular on call duties, as per the contract.

This is a 10PA post consisting of outpatient clinics, ward work, AOS, MDT meetings, radiotherapy and chemotherapy prescribing.  In order to fulfil the responsibilities of this post you must be eligible for full GMC registration.  This is a new post within the department and will be a permanent appointment.

Candidates from either the UK, or overseas are welcome to apply.  We would welcome enquiries from anyone wishing to follow the RCR CESR training route onto the specialist registers.  The department is actively supporting individuals embarking on this career pathway.

Working for our organisation

Royal Surrey is a compassionate and collaborative acute and community Trust. Recognising that our 5000 colleagues are our greatest strength, we offer a comprehensive health and wellbeing program along with a commitment to developing and advancing your career. Our diverse and welcoming Royal Surrey family will ensure you that you feel valued from your initial interview through your entire tenure.

We are clinically led and provide joined up care by bridging the gap between hospital and community services alongside regional specialist cancer care. Our main acute hospital site is in Guildford with community hospital sites at Milford, Haslemere and Cranleigh. We provide adult community health services in homes across Guildford and Waverley.

We have received an overall Good rating from the CQC with Medical care (including older peoples care), End of Life Care and Maternity services being deemed Outstanding by the CQC.

Royal Surrey has a strong reputation and history to build on. We are proud of our achievements and we are investing in our colleagues through our commitment to supporting professional development as well as investing more than £45 million in our physical environment and new equipment in the next few years. There has never been a better time to join us.

Although it isn't the Trusts normal practice, adverts may close early, so you are encouraged to submit an application as soon as possible.
