Safeguarding Exploitation Health Lead

NHS AfC: Band 7

Job overview

Please note that if you are applying for this role as an internal secondment from a permanent Surrey and Sussex ICB role, you will need to have confirmation that this will be supported by your current line manager. There is no automatic right to a secondment.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly skilled safeguarding professional to lead and strengthen the health system’s response to exploitation across Sussex. Working collaboratively across organisational boundaries with NHS providers, local authorities, police, safeguarding partnerships and community organisations, you will provide specialist leadership, advice, training and assurance to help prevent, identify and respond to exploitation. This influential role offers the opportunity to improve multi-agency safeguarding arrangements and make a meaningful difference to the lives and outcomes of children and young people who are experiencing, or may be at risk of, exploitation.

Main duties of the job

·       With the support of the ICB and wider safeguarding team, act as a lead for exploitation across the health system, ensuring and co-ordinating health representation and engagement within the exploitation agenda, and all relevant risk assessment and relevant meetings.

·       Support the Head of Safeguarding, Designated Professionals and wider team to ensure that the exploitation workstream is planned and managed effectively and take the lead in assisting in their successful delivery.

·       Work closely with the Safeguarding Children Partnerships, (and Safeguarding Adult Boards as needed), to continually improve safeguarding arrangements regarding exploitation across the health economy in partnership with a range of agencies and services, including the Local Authorities and Police

·       Lead and coordinate the NHS health economy activity to prevent, identify and respond to exploitation.

·       Act as the NHS safeguarding lead and subject-matter expert for exploitation and maintain awareness of emerging issues, legislation, policy and best practice.

·       Ensure organisational awareness of exploitation and its relationship with wider safeguarding processes.

Working for our organisation

The Integrated Care Board (ICB) has the responsibility to decide what health services are needed in Surrey and Sussex and set out how they'll be provided, making sure hospitals, primary care, and other services work together, rather than in silos, for the benefit of everyone in the community. NHS Surrey Heartlands and Sussex ICB achieve this by working in partnership with local health and care organisations, staff, patients, carers, families and the public, to support three million people across Surrey and Sussex to live healthier lives.

Together, we have an ambitious vision for improving health and care services across Surrey and Sussex. We are working to:
- Improve health and care outcomes for everyone, with a focus on preventing ill health and
proactive care.
- Tackle inequalities to reduce unfair gaps in access, experience, and outcomes.
- Get better value from our services by enhancing productivity and value for money.
- Support local communities to grow and thrive through social and economic development.
