Job overview

We are looking for an experienced trainee that wishes to complete FUSIC Heart or level 1 British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) transthoracic echocardiography accreditation over 12 months. Applicants should be interested in a career in intensive care medicine or any other acute medical speciality and have ideally started or been exposed to the FUSIC Heart accreditation process.

This is a highly desired post that also aims to support the increasing work intensity found in the Intensive Care, High Dependency units and Critical Care Outreach teams. Applicants must be familiar with the UK Healthcare system. This post is a full shift system with internal cover for annual and study leave. The fellowship has already successfully taken over 12 trainees through level 1 BSE TTE accreditation and three trainees through level 2 BSE TTE accreditation.

Encouragement and dedicated sessions will be given to pursue these recognised accreditations in transthoracic echocardiography, along with study leave and help with exam preparation if required.

Our unit boasts a state-of-the-art GE Vivid S70 R2 cardiovascular ultrasound device dedicated to echocardiography and two viewing/analysing/reporting workstation within the unit. The successful candidate will be able to perform high quality analyses and reporting using the latest version of GE EchoPACS on our dedicated workstation. In addition, it will be possible for the successful candidate to attend outpatient echocardiography sessions.

For this post, the successful candidate will be supervised by Dr Theophilus Samuels ([email protected]), Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine who also possesses full BSE level 2 transthoracic echocardiography accreditation.

The unit is also actively involved in patient research involving critical care echocardiography. The successfully candidate will be expected to support research within the department.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC or GDC registration with licence to practice
  • MB BS (or equivalent medical qualification)
Desirable criteria
  • FUSIC Heart accreditation (or equivalent)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Familiarity with UK Healthcare system
Desirable criteria
  • 6 months post foundation experience in another speciality eg A&E, medicine, paediatrics.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

Essential criteria
  • Clinical skills and knowledge appropriate for level of training and has completed an appropriate number of work place assessments and MSF
  • Awareness of limitations
  • Seeks help appropriately
  • At least a provider for one of the following courses - ATLS/ ALS/ EPLS or similar
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of the level 1 BSE accreditation process
  • Undertaken audit or research projects in last 2 years.
  • Experience in bedside ultrasound (logbook evidence).
  • Holds current Instructor status for one of the following courses – ATLS/ALS/EPLS or similar
