Job overview

Consultant Cellular Pathologists (Breast & Uropathology) - x2 posts
With sub-specialty experience/interest in Urology and/or Breast

We have an exciting opportunity for a medically-qualified histopathologist who holds FRCPath Part 2 or is within 6 months of being awarded GMC specialist registration by CCT or CESR to work at East Surrey Hospital – part of Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust – rated as Outstanding by the CQC.

We are one of the country’s highest-performing, most integrated and most respected NHS Pathology networks. Our focus on clinical excellence means that we are the perfect place for you to progress as a professional. Our friendly, supportive, open culture makes this a unique place to support great patient care.

We are proud to be NHS-managed, and are driven to provide the best quality service for our patients. We strive to be an exemplar network for how modernised, innovative pathology services can be delivered for today’s NHS. Applications are invited for a whole-time consultant histopathologist post that requires knowledge, skills and experience in general histopathology reporting as well as sub-specialty interest and experience in either Urology and/or Breast reporting and MDT work. We are looking for applicants with enthusiasm and drive, who are good communicators and team-workers, who foster productive working relationships with colleagues, and who are committed to patients, their safety and the quality of the services we provide.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join a team established for 10 consultants. The main laboratory is at the Royal Surrey County hub, with cut-up and reporting being retained at East Surrey Hospital. A programme to roll out digital pathology imaging across the BSPS network is currently underway. There are active working collaborations with the Surrey Cancer Centre at Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford and other acute sites across BSPS.

There are opportunities for flexible working, including from home and at other hospital sites in the network, as well as for developing a role in clinical leadership, coronial work and academic, teaching and research activity through the Trust’s active R&D department and its associations with Brighton & Sussex Medical School and the University of Surrey.

Working for our organisation

BSPS serves six hospitals across five NHS Trusts: Ashford and St Peter’s Hospital, Frimley Park Hospital, Wexham Park Hospital, Royal Surrey County Hospital, Royal Berkshire Hospital and East Surrey Hospital.

East Surrey Hospital are a leading local employer with a diverse workforce of approximately 6,000 staff, dedicated to providing healthcare services to a growing population of around 780,000 individuals.

Our Trust provides both emergency and planned healthcare across East Surrey, North-East West Sussex, and South Croydon – covering towns like Crawley, Horsham, Reigate, and Redhill. Our main hospital, East Surrey in Redhill, offers a full range of acute and specialist services and is also the closest trauma unit to Gatwick Airport. We also provide outpatient, diagnostic, and planned care services at sites including The Earlswood Centre, Caterham Dene Hospital, Oxted Health Centre, Crawley Hospital, and Horsham Hospital.
