Job overview

To manage the mortuary facilities and services of the East Surrey Hospital and all staff within. To ensure a safe, clean and compliant mortuary able to meet the needs of all service users from relatives to HM Coroner for Surrey. To ensure capacity is managed and to provide an on-call service for advice, viewings and Forensic post-mortem examinations. To maintain and provide all documentation to pertaining to Human Tissue Authority (HTA), in order to retain HTA licence on site.

The post holder will be the professional head of the mortuary staff, working closely with the Designated Individual for the HTA and the Network Mortuary operations Manager, the post holder will lead and be responsible for the day to day management of staff and resources in the ESH Mortuary. The post holder will provide the technical lead and expertise within the department to maintain and develop the service. Ensure appropriate staffing levels, gradings, skill mix, equipment and work practices within the department to ensure the maintenance of standards required by the HTA and other regulatory requirements and good mortuary practice. The postholder will also be responsible for preparation of bodies for viewing purposes, the provision and maintenance of adequate training facilities and systems and the development and maintenance of policies and procedures relevant to the provision of Mortuary services. To provide cross site cover for all other BSPS sites when necessary.
