NHS AfC: Band 7
Job overview
Are you a passionate and experienced paediatric nurse ready to take the next step in your leadership journey? We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity to join our dynamic and forward-thinking Paediatric Emergency Department (PED) at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (SASH) as a Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
As a Senior Sister/Charge Nurse, you will play a pivotal role in leading our dedicated nursing team, working closely with the Emergency Department Matron and the Associate Divisional Chief Nurse for Emergency Care.
You will be one of two senior nurses providing expert emergency care to children and young people, ensuring the highest standards of clinical excellence and compassionate care.
This is a highly visible leadership role where you will:
- Coordinate and lead shifts within the Paediatric Emergency Department.
- Support and mentor junior staff, students, and healthcare support workers.
- Collaborate with adult ED colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver seamless, family-centred care.
- Drive quality improvement, patient safety, and service development initiatives.
- Have protected management time to support team development and service delivery.
Main duties of the job
Our purpose-built Paediatric Emergency Department includes a dedicated Resuscitation Room and immediate access to advanced imaging, including an adjacent CT scanner, enabling rapid diagnostics for our most critically ill patients. We are proud to be at the forefront of paediatric emergency care, with strong links to inpatient paediatrics, the Children’s Assessment Unit, and elective services—ensuring continuity of care from arrival to discharge.
We can offer you:
- A supportive, innovative, and collaborative team culture.
- Opportunities for professional development and leadership training.
- Access to Trust-wide wellbeing and career development resources.
