Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join two innovative and well valued library services. As the Queen Victoria Hospital Clinical Librarian, you will be working with both the Library and Knowledge Services team and Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, and the Library team at Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, delivering professional librarian services to a specialist organisation.

Main duties of the job

  • Act as lead professional librarian for Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Trust 

  • Carry out complex literature searching and summaries of evidence to support clinical and non-clinical decision making to staff and learners at Queen Victoria Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust 

  • Plan, deliver and review information skills training sessions to meet the needs of Library users 

  • Provide library and knowledge services to staff and learners at Queen Victoria Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust at their point of need 

  • Effectively market, promote and tailor library and knowledge services to staff and learners at Queen Victoria Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust 

  • Help shape the strategic direction of the delivery of Library and Knowledge Services to Queen Victoria Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Evidence Services 

  • To support the use of evidence to underpin clinical and non-clinical decision making at all levels of the Trust 

  • To undertake complex evidence searches in the context of a specialist Trust.  

  • To review, analyse and package results, and where necessary synthesise and provide summaries of evidence  

  • To answer enquiries on topics relevant to patient care 

  • To take a lead on the provision of library and knowledge service working across teams 

  • Provide embedded specialist librarian services where requested by the Trust and other organisations served when necessary  

 

Education and Training 

  • Working with other members of the Library and Knowledge Team to plan, deliver and review a programme of bespoke library information skill sessions 

  • Working with other members of the Library and Knowledge Team to produce high quality, accessible and specialised training materials as needed 

  • Working with other members of the Library and Knowledge Team to provide formal library skills training, library inductions, Trust welcome days and other special training  

  • Work with other library and knowledge professionals, to share and develop training materials 

 

 

Marketing and Promotion 

  • Developing and maintaining key relationships in the Trust and other organisations 

  • Identify opportunities to market and promote Library and Knowledge Services, including generating impact case studies from work delivered 

  • Deliver library services at the users point of need, ie. In their work place, in meetings etc.   

  • Use a range of data to profile user needs, identify trends and library service development opportunities  

  • Assist with the promotion and publicity of the Library and Knowledge Services 

  • To identify opportunities to market and promote Library electronic resources to Trust staff 

  • Developing and maintaining key relationships in the Trust and other organisations  

 

Library Management Team 

  • Take an active role in staff selection, interviewing and recruitment 

  • Work to improve and develop the Library Service provision for the benefit of all users 

  • Develop a seamless and equitable service to all users at their point of need 

  • Review the scope and range of current services, including specialist servicesImproving and introducing new services where appropriate 

  • Identify library staff training and development needs, and induct new staff into site procedures to maintain service quality  

  • Ensure consistency and quality of service across the whole of the library service 

  • Take on some day to day line supervision responsibilities for the Library and Knowledge Team 

  • Represent the library service at Local Faculty Group Meetings 

 

Library Systems 

  • Work with the Trust IT and the Library and Knowledge Team to identify developments and issues with IT and systems in the library 

  • Use general IT tools, alongside specialised Library and Knowledge systems (ie. Library Management System, KnowledgeShare, HLM) to support the day to day provision of Library and Knowledge Services 

  • To keep Library IT equipment, facilities and software up to date and relevant to the developing information needs of library users and organisations served; working with the Trust’s IT Department and with other organisations IT departments as required.  

  • Working with the Library Management Team to identify library staff training and development needs, particularly arising from new and existing electronic resources and services 

  • To maintain appropriate documentation of procedures associated with the Library systems and services for library staff and users 

  • Support the Head of Library and Knowledge Services with the local management of the Koha Library Management System 

 

 

Electronic Resources and Library Website 

  

  • To promote, identify opportunities and deliver training to Library and Knowledge Services users on electronic resources 

  • To support Library and Knowledge Service Team members in use and understanding of electronic resources 

 

Professional Development 

  • Work towards agreed objectives 

  • To undertake training to update and acquire skills, including attendance at study days / courses  

  • Develop good knowledge management principles in their own area of work 

 

Other responsibilities 

  • To undertake additional duties commensurate with this grade as required by Head or Deputy Head of Library Services, or Medical Education Manager 

  • Assist with the continuous monitoring of the library services 

  • When necessary assist with the day to day running of the library service across sites
