Job overview
We are looking for enthusiastic and committed Consultant Intensivists to join our team of Consultants in the Intensive Care Unit, which is part of the Directorate of Anaesthesia, Theatres and Critical Care. The unit has received the rating of Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.
This is a full time substantive 10 PA consultant post which encompasses 8.25 DCC and 1.75 SPA but any candidate who wishes to work less than full time will be considered and supported, taking into account service needs. Additional sessions may be available on request. The post will be subject to the Terms and Conditions of the new Consultant Contract (2003). In addition to appraisal, the job plans of all consultants will be reviewed at least annually in conjunction with the Chief of Service and the Associate Director.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be expected to take part in developing services within the Trust and to share the clinical, administrative and teaching work with the other consultants in the department. Participation in Clinical Audit is a requirement and an ongoing activity in the Department. Clinical research projects are encouraged.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration
- Appropriate postgraduate qualifications (FRCA, DICM, EDICM, FFICM) or equivalent
- Entry on specialist register, CCT (or equivalent CESR) for ICM, Anaesthesia, Acute Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, complimentary speciality or within six months of anticipated CCT.
Desirable criteria
- Membership ESICM
- Membership ICS
- Formal teaching or instructing qualification.
- Joint accreditation in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia/or related speciality
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Proven demonstration of ability to communicate effectively and to work in a multidisciplinary team setting.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Ability to work in a flexible manner
Experience
Essential criteria
- Current or previous experience of working in the NHS
- Broad general experience in Intensive Care and related speciality
- Ability to take full independent responsibility for critically ill patients.
- Evidence of participation in training & supervision of trainees
- Participation in Clinical Audit
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrable experience in ECHO
- Evidence of presentations at meetings of learned societies
- Participation in departmental management in previous posts.
- Evidence of implementing change to improve patient care.
