Job overview
We invite applications from registrar (CT3/ST3+) to post-CCT anaesthetists for our Trauma and Regional Anaesthesia Fellowship.
The Fellow will receive exceptional training in regional anaesthesia, train colleagues in regional anaesthesia, and help enhance Wexham Park Hospital’s regional anaesthesia and trauma service.
Please note that there may be an opportunity to extend the contract by a further 6 months upon mutual agreement.
Main duties of the job
Some of the main duties for this post include:
- A pro-block culture is embedded in our Trust’s routine anaesthetic and surgical practice, so the Fellow can expect to perform a large volume and range of blocks for elective and emergency surgery, including upper and lower limb blocks, and chest and abdominal wall blocks and catheters.
- Attending our regional anaesthesia courses.
- Working towards EDRA exam eligibility - following a 12 months fellowship, the fellow is anticipated to be eligible for EDRA part 2 (performed 150 neuraxial blocks, 150 peripheral blocks, various other blocks, and attendance at 3 workshops). The fellow will be encouraged to sit the EDRA exam and attend an ESRA conference.

Education and qualifications
Essential criteria
- Primary medical qualification recognised by the GMC
Desirable criteria
- Obtained awards/prizes during training
Professional/statutory registration
Essential criteria
- Full registration and licence to practice with the GMC
Previous clinical training / experience
Essential criteria
- Primary FRCA or equivalent
- Completed at least 3 years practice as an anaesthetist in the NHS, equivalent to CT4/ST4 or above, including experience undertaking on-call shifts in theatres, labour ward and ICU
- Clinical skills commensurate with a specialty trainee
Desirable criteria
- Final FRCA or equivalent
- CCT in anaesthesia
- Postgraduate experience in other specialties
Experience in regional anaesthesia
Essential criteria
- Evidence of interest in regional anaesthesia, including logbook of cases and blocks
Desirable criteria
- Attendance at regional anaesthesia courses and conferences
- Faculty on regional anaesthesia course
- Proficient in the practice of regional anaesthesia, including Plan A blocks and beyond
- Obtained any components of EDRA
Experience in audit, QUIP and research
Essential criteria
- Evidence of participation in audit and QUIPs
- Understands clinical governance
- Critically appraises and understands relevance of evidence base and applies it to clinical practice appropriately.
Desirable criteria
- Experience writing policies, protocols or guidelines
- Experience in research, including postgraduate degree e.g. MD, PhD
- Presentations at regional and national meetings
- Publications in peer reviewed journal
Skills, knowledge and personal attributes
