Job overview
First Steps Day Nursery based in the grounds of Wexham Park Hospital provides high quality care and education to children aged between 3 months to 5 years.
We are open Monday to Friday between 07:00am and 17:30pm for 51 weeks of the year. Our setting is spacious, set over one floor with a lovely outdoor area, which the children can access easily throughout the day.
We are a friendly and inclusive team, who are very passionate and focused in our vision of children learning through play. This is implemented through continuous provision, In the moment planning, and the statutory requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
As a Nursery Room Leader working with us, you can expect excellent training and development as well as a caring and passionate place to work.
Shift patterns entail 8 hour daily shifts Monday to Friday from 6.30am to 5.30pm totalling 37.5 hours a week.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Nursery Practitioner with a Level 3 Early Years qualification to step into the role of Room Lead in our Preschool room, starting in October. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with previous leadership experience or someone ready to develop their leadership skills in a supportive environment.
You will take a lead role in planning and delivering high-quality learning experiences that support children's individual development and well-being in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). You will be responsible for creating a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment, promoting positive relationships with children, parents, and the wider team.
As Room Lead, you will support and guide your colleagues, role-modelling good practice and ensuring routines and activities are child-centred and inclusive. You will monitor children's progress, contribute to planning meetings, and complete accurate observations and records.
We are looking for someone who is proactive, approachable, creative, and passionate about providing outstanding early years care and education. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Essential criteria
- Gained Early Years Level 3 Ofqual Approved Qualification
- Level 3 Safeguarding Certificate
Desirable criteria
- Foundation Degree in Early Years
- Paediatric First Aid certificate
Experience
Essential criteria
- EYFS Observation, Assessment and Planning Structures.
- Minimum of one year experience in Early Years Room Lead role-using reflection to analyse/evaluate and develop/improve practice (own-others
- Good understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection Procedures.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Early Years Policies and Procedures
Skills & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Good level of experience in this role and in implementing the Early Years Foundation Stage for children from birth to five
- Have good communication skills with both adults and children
- Good IT skills
Special Requirements
Essential criteria
- Engage in continuous updating of own skills and knowledge.
- Committed to attending staff meetings/training after nursery hours.
