Emergency Nurse Practitioner/Paramedic Practitioner

Band 7

Job overview

We are seeking two full-time Emergency Nurse Practitioners or Paramedic Practitioners to join the team at Wexham Park Hospital’s Emergency Department, which sees approximately 120,000 attendances annually. Around 30% of these are treated within the Minor Injury Unit (MIU).

In this role, you will work autonomously as an independent practitioner, managing a diverse caseload of patients presenting with minor injuries and undiagnosed conditions. You will deliver expert clinical care in accordance with established protocols and guidelines, ensuring timely assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and appropriate referral.

As a key member of the emergency team, you will demonstrate advanced clinical skills, critical thinking, and sound decision-making. You will also be expected to act as a role model, contributing to the ongoing development of high-quality emergency care and supporting best practices within the MIU.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic, fast-paced environment, delivering patient-centred care and making a real impact on the local community.

Main duties of the job

•    To see and treat patients with a wide variety of minor illnesses and injuries.
•    Demonstrate effective clinical practice with a sound knowledge base incorporating proven research to enhance person-centred care, acting as a patient advocate.
•    Safely manage patient caseload and work within Trust Protocols and guidelines for ED
•    To be IT literate and be able to use electronic patient records, which will allow other health professionals to continue patient care if required. Writing concise notes.
•    Promote a learning environment for all grades of staff allocated to the Department by taking an active role in teaching.
•    Actively participate in the See-and-Treat of patients attending the Department within relevant protocols.
•    Work at the ED Reception area as the initial clinician to stream patients to the appropriate area, using the Emergency Severity Index triage tool.
•    To work in a navigational role signposting patients to the appropriate areas and providing clinical expertise.
•    Work with the Nurse in Charge to prioritise and promote effective and timely flow of patients within all areas of ED.
•    Provide clinical expertise for vulnerable patients in waiting room, giving advice, analgesia if indicated and reassurances with clinical care.
