Health Care Support Worker

We are recruiting for a motivated and compassionate Health Care Support Worker to join our 16 bedded male Medical Ward.

The Ward provides care for Adult male patients with a range of acute and chronic medical conditions, delivering safe, high-quality and patient-centred care.

The role involves providing support to patients with activities of daily living, monitoring and reporting patient observations and ensuring a clean, safe and supportive ward environment.

You will contribute to infection control, patient safety and effective communication within the team.

Both experienced and "New to Care" applicants are welcome.

Main Duties of the Job:

To assist members of the multi-disciplinary team to maintain patient’s fundamental
needs and ensure patient safety.

  • To assist with a range of non-clinical duties

  • • To work under the supervision of registered staff and Healthcare assistants and to provide support in the delivery of quality care for patients.
    • To provide a full range of support functions in a ward/department/theatre or clinical environment. This will include undertaking the key role of delivering personal care duties for patients, supporting patients / clients with toileting, bathing, dressing and meals.
    • Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of patients, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person-centered care principles.

  • Provide excellent customer care skills to ensure patients come first.
  • Act on own initiative when delivering the personal care requirements. Seeking guidance of a Healthcare Assistant or Registrant where required to ensure that the patient’s
    health, safety, wellbeing, and dignity are always maintained when personal care is being delivered.
  • To act as an advocate for patients within the department/ward/unit.

Qualifications

  • Evidence of general education e.g. English and Maths GCSE's or functional skills Level 2 or equivalent.

  • Vocational qualification at level 2 or equivalent relevant experience

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to learn new skills.
  • Knowledge of how to respect individuality and diversity of patients, their carers, and your colleagues.
  • Good Customer care skills.
  • Ability for caring for people with compassion.

  • Clear and accurate written/verbal English communication
  • Good basic hygiene skills (e.g., food handling, hand washing etc.)
  • Able to listen effectively and demonstrate an empathetic /sensitive approach and be able to communicate effectively and compassionately to colleagues, staff, and patients and their family/carers/visitors.
  • Ability to follow a clear instruction and accept constructive professional feedback.
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Understanding of the requirements of patient confidentiality
  • Punctual and reliable.
