Main duties of the job
-
Provide expert clinical assessment, management, and support for patients with lung cancer throughout their care pathway.

Coordinate patient care and act as a key point of contact for patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.

Deliver holistic, patient-centered care including symptom management, psychological support, and education.

Facilitate timely access to diagnostics, treatment, and supportive services.

Support patients and families in understanding their diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis.

Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individual care plans.

Lead and contribute to service development, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.

Provide education and training to healthcare professionals and patients about lung cancer care and best practice.

Participate in clinical research and support recruitment where applicable.
-
Advocate for patients’ needs and ensure equitable access to care and support services.

Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records in line with professional standards.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Current NMC Registration
- Degree in General Nursing
- Teaching and Assessing qualification - has attended mentorship training
- Studied relevant Cancer/Palliative/respiratory academic modules
Desirable criteria
- Relevant Masters Degree or working towards
- Lung cancer module completion
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in working as a Cancer/Palliative/Respiratory nurse specialist
- Systemic anti cancer therapy treatment trained willing to complete
- Training and education of nurses and other health care professionals
- Experience in creating, maintaining and reporting audits for service improvement
Desirable criteria
- Experience or running nurse led clinics
- Systemic anti cancer therapy treatment trained
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Evidence in attending advanced communication skills training
- Evidence of leadership skills in a work place
- Ability to work autonomously or as part of a team
- Flexible attitude to working and open to developing new ways of working
Desirable criteria
- Psychology Level 2 skills training
- Demonstrate involvement in recent research
- Previous involvement in clinical trials
