Job overview
Applications are invited from enthusiastic and well-motivated individuals to join our team providing high quality, compassionate care to our patients. We also welcome applications from people with minimal or no Phlebotomy experience providing they have other required attributes.
The successful candidates will be required to undertake a wide range of duties appropriate to the Phlebotomy section but will mainly be involved with the collection of blood samples by venepuncture for analysis from hospital wards, outpatients, primary care and community clinics.
We currently have hours available at our Morriston, Singleton, Neath Port Talbot Hospitals as well as NPT resource centre, Gorseinon Hospital and Central Clinic. Successful candidates will need to be able to cover any of these sites.
The successful candidates will be required to participate in the weekend / bank holiday rota. You will be required to travel between sites in a timely manner.
Having a blood test done is often an essential step in a patient’s diagnosis or treatment and the care we give makes a real difference to this journey
Main duties of the job
To collect blood samples by venepuncture from patients in a supervised
environment.
To be able to communicate effectively with all members of
staff and patients, whilst being sensitive to patients’ needs.
To learn all Phlebotomy skills to enable accurate collection of blood samples.
Preparing and maintaining clinical areas.
To work accurately and safely under pressure.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
The role will involve visiting GP Surgeries and outlying Hospitals as well as performing venepuncture in inpatients. The role will include weekend, Bank Holiday and evening working.

- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
- Evidence of maintaining their personal development
Desirable criteria
- Vocational qualification in a healthcare related subject.
- Basic First aid qualification
- Experience in Phlebotomy

- Full awareness and understanding of health and safety protocols applicable to Phlebotomy including infection control.
