Job overview
An exciting opportunity to join Cardiac ITU/HDU/PACU based at Morriston Hospital. This is an eighteen(18) bedded unit which provides specialist nursing care to patients following Cardiac, Thoracic and General surgery.
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated NMC registered nurse with existing or promising strong clinical and leadership skills.
The ideal candidate will be compassionate and will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, committed to delivering high quality care and can work well as part of a team.
Main duties of the job
To be responsible for the individualised care of patients on their elective/inhouse surgical pathway.
To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing practice whilst co-ordinating and liaising with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
To assist with support and supervision of students and junior members of the team.
To supervise and co-ordinate other staff as appropriate and take charge of the unit.
To demonstrate leadership and deputise in the absence of the Senior Sister/Senior Charge Nurse.

Essential Qualifications & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse (Part 1) - Active NMC Registration
- Bachelor degree in relevant health related subject (or equivalent experience)
- Pertinent postgraduate diploma (or equivalent development / experience
- Knowledge of Safeguarding Adults/Children including the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
- Knowledge of quality and service improvement methodologies e.g. Bronze IQT. Able to demonstrate sound knowledge of NMC Code (2015)
Desirable criteria
- Teaching qualification (or equivalent experience)
- Recognised management qualification
- Understanding of wider nursing and health care related agenda

- Relevant clinical experience
- Experience of working in a multi-professional environment. Experience of shift leadership
