Job overview

The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals has a unique and exciting opportunity to work as part of the Patient Experience Team at a time when new and exciting ways of working are being developed. We are in a position to advertise the post of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Manager (patient services) working full time on a permanent basis.

The successful applicant will join a supportive team which is led by the Head of Patient Experience. There will be opportunities to learn and develop new skills and influence patient experience developments and projects.

Main duties of the job

Key roles of the post include developing and implementing an equality, diversity and inclusion (patients) work plan, identify key areas for improvement and working in collaboration with local communities.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • The post holder will be responsible for leading and delivering a range of projects aimed at improving the experience of people with protected characteristics
  • The projects will change over time depending on patient/carer feedback and national legislation
  • The post holder will evaluate projects they have led on conducting thorough evaluation and make suggestions for change or future work streams
  • The post holder will be required to develop and implement an EDIStrategy (patients) and identify key areas for improvement.
  • The post holder will need to ensure that relevant and current EDI statutory requirements are met.
  • The post holder will be required to provide training and support for staff concerning the equality and diversity of patients
  • To identify and lead on service improvement projects in relation to EDI
  • The post holder will provide a liaison function between external EDI networks
  • The post holder will ensure the timely review and develop a robust process to ensure evidence is collated as part of the quality standards framework and EDS2 requirements.
  • The post holder will be required to work in collaboration with Human ResourcesEDI colleagues and supporting staff networks when appropriate
  • Provide support to staff when analysing equality in relation to new policy, service development and improvement
  • Provide leadership within Interpretation and Translation services
  • The post holder will be required to support and co-ordinate patient, carer and public involvement in relation to people with protected characteristics

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or have equivalent knowledge over broad subject range
  • Post graduate qualification or equivalent level of knowledge and experience in project management

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of project management in relation to Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of patient, carer and public involvement and EDHR
  • Evidence of drive, initiative, creativity and enthusiasm to support EDI work
  • Evidence of relevant continuous professional development
  • Knowledge of the legal aspects of EDHR legislation
Desirable criteria
  • Advanced IT skills
  • Effective project management skills
  • Proven change management skills
  • Previous EDHR role or experience

Skills & Abilities

  • Confidence and ability to represent the Trust in relation to EDI (patients)
  • Evidence of analytical and report writing skills
