Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the scheduling team at the Chemotherapy Day Unit at the QEH Gateshead.
We are looking for a motivated, well-organised team player with excellent communication and IT skills to join our team.
The post-holder will be a key member of the admin team and a first point of contact for patients attending the unit for systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT); they will be responsible for scheduling in SACT for the unit and will regularly communicate with medical, nursing and wider teams.
The post-holder must be confident in communicating with staff of all levels and with patients facing a life-limiting illness. They will be expected to work both autonomously and as part of a team as well as supporting the admin team with reception duties.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for correct and timely scheduling of patients referred to the chemotherapy day unit for SACT, involving the use of chemocare and other IT systems. You will be expected to ensure full and efficient utilisation of capacity and and escalate where necessary.
You will support the nursing team and wider multi-disciplinary teams with enquiries relating to scheduling, appointments and administration.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Receive referrals and schedule patients for outpatient SACT for cancer.
- To allocate appropriate appointment slots for each stage of the treatment process, liaising with relevant staff as necessary.
- To participate in all aspects of the administration service within the unit as required. Contribute to the delivery of a consistently high standard of patient care as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
- To maintain awareness of service delivery developments and contribute to the implementation of change within the service.
- To participate in meetings as required.
- Communicate effectively and compassionately with all patients and stakeholders
- Support the unit manager with data collection and audits as required.
- Update appointments following treatment changes, deferrals, or cancellations as instructed by clinical staff.
- Signpost patients to appropriate clinical staff if they have treatment-related questions or concerns.
- Maintain confidentiality and data integrity when handling patient information in line with GDPR and Trust policies.
- Contribute positively to a culture of safety, teamwork, and service excellence.
