An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated staff nurses to join the Older Persons Mental Health Service Line, working into our inpatient unit.  The unit is situated in the grounds of The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead, and compromises of two wards - Cragside and Sunniside.   

The vacancies are for Cragside ward which provides inpatient admission, assessment, treatment and discharge planning to patients who have an Organic illness, and are over the age of 65.  The team works closely with Sunniside ward.  You would be joining a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team at an exciting time as the unit participates in the NHS England Culture of Care Program.

We are looking for caring, empathetic, enthusiastic and motivated individuals, who have a desire to improve the lives of Older People experiencing Mental Health Problems.

The post holder will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team, and will be part of the assessment of care needs, risk assessment, formulation and implementation of care plans that are meaningful to our Patients.

You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be motivated to engage within our patient group & ward environment.

The postholder will be expected to be flexible to meet the needs of the service and work across all shift patterns including night shift.

Essential criteria
  • • Registered Mental Health Nurse with current NMC Registration
  • • Diploma/ Degree in Nursing.
  • • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • • Ability to assess. Plan, deliver and evaluate quality care
  • • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload.
  • • Relevant NHS experience
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience of complex mental health problems
  • • Participate in audit.
  • • Recent relevant experience.
  • • Knowledge and experience of Older Peoples Mental Health

Analytical and Judgemental Skills

Essential criteria
  • • Analyse and make clinical decisions based on clinical information through detailed Nursing assessment and evaluation.
  • • Ensure that patient care is planned and delivered to meet individual patient need
  • • Make clinical judgements involving a range of facts and situations which require analysis or comparison of a range of options.
  • • Respond to situations and plan short and longer tem adjustments to own workload and that of the team to ensure safe delivery of care.
Desirable criteria
  • • Respond to information gained from audit and research in area of practice to implement change where necessary to ensure best practice.

Analytical and Judgemental Skills
