Job overview
We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team.
The post centres round supporting research in respiratory medicine and will be based mostly at the Sir William Leech Centre for Respiratory Research, Freeman Hospital though covering studies within the wider Trust such as Royal Victoria Hospital site may be needed. The role requires flexible working and is less than full time. The work pattern can be negotiated for the right candidate but is likely to be 2 programmed activities (2PAs) per week. This post is commence as soon as possible for 12 months.
Additional duties will include answering data queries, attending site initiation visits, training in our open studies and explaining studies / taking consent.
Successful applicants must have essential skills including sound knowledge of Good clinical practice (GCP) for clinical trials and ideally certification of training in this from NIHR or equivalent. Desirable requirements are prior experience in clinical trials and specialist respiratory expertise.

Candidates for the post must be registered medical practitioners and on, or eligible to join, the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Appointments Committee.

Main duties of the job
Senior Medical Oversight (less than full time). into Sir William Leech Centre for Respiratory research; supporting research nurse team and junior doctor.
The role will involve supervision and support to the respiratory research team and may involve attending research participant visits, attending site initiation visits and monitoring visits.
The successful applicant would be expected to have good working knowledge of clinical trials, assessing patient eligibility and screening, adverse events/ reporting and working with principal investigators.
The responsibilities include supporting the nurses and early career research doctors in seeing trials participants, undertaking physical examinations, documenting visits, safety reporting and reviewing results.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical:
· No clinics or on call / ward cover duties expected but there may be opportunity to support these as workload / interests / need for patient identification for new research studies arises
· Clinical care of trials participants / dealing with abnormal results/ assessing trials eligibility / prescribing
Administrative:
· Maintain ICH -GCP Good clinical practice (GCP for trials)
· Oversight of participants in trials results
Research:
· Clinical care of trials participants / dealing with abnormal results / assessing trials eligibility

Teaching:
· No specific teaching responsibilities though opportunities arise through departmental weekly teaching, ward based teaching of medical students
Flexibility:
In line with the Trust’s core value of placing patients at the heart of everything we do, we are developing our service provision to be responsive to the needs of our patients. To meet those needs some staff groups will be increasingly asked to work a more flexible work pattern so that they can offer services in the evening or weekend. As a result any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern or working in the future if required, including evening and weekend work. This post is less than full time and concentrates on supporting the clinical trials centre work which is predominantly in “office hours”

Education, Qualifications and Specialist Skills
Essential criteria
- Primary Medical Qualification
- Full GMC Registration
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register (within 6 months from the date of the AAC).
Desirable criteria
- Higher Degree.

Clinical Experience

- Evidence of experience in the specialty.
- Evidence of a substantial commitment to the specialty
