Main duties of the job

To supervise staff employed within Sterile Services and to supply sterile goods to:  

  • Operating Theatres 
  • Wards/clinics 
  • Endoscopy Department 
  • Ensuring the correct service is provided in keeping with corporate governance procedures

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Responsible to Head of Department and Deputy Managers, for the day-to-day supervision, efficiency and leadership of the department. To ensure a high quality service from Sterile Services and Endoscopy ensuring compliance with statutory legislation and external guidance and supporting delivery of Trust objectives.
  • To provide specialist knowledge across the range of work procedures and to ensure the Trust meets all professional legislative requirements in delivering its service to high standards and maintain stock control.
  • To observe all health and safety regulations including COSHH in accordance with the Trust’s policy and departments quality standards and procedures.
  • To participate in relevant health education programmes initiated within the Trust.
  • Support the introduction and maintenance of quality systems and processes in the departments.

Person specification

KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria
  • Diploma in Decontamination (Eastwood Park) (or completion of the equivalent in house training programme) plus knowledge of Sterile Service procedures and practices gained through substantial experience
  • Knowledge of SSD procedures and practices gained through substantial experience. Ability to deal with non-routine problems
  • DTM course Eastwood Park (diploma level) or willingness to attend within first 6 months
  • Previous experience in Sterile Service techniques and knowledge
  • Knowledge of legislation and recommended guidance of manufacturing sterile goods and methods of good practice
Desirable criteria
  • Sound knowledge of Sterile Services equipment / maintenance programmes/htm01-01 and htm01-06requirements
  • Experience in the use of T-Doc traceability system
  • Understanding of Quality Management System ISO13485

SKILLS

Essential criteria
  • Effective oral/written communication
  • Ability to work collectively as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Personal management skills and computer literacy

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Previous Sterile Services experience in a Technician position
  • Previous significant Sterile Services experience
  • Evidence of ability to lead a team
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Theatre procedures and instruments
  • Knowledge of Endoscopy processing techniques

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in house training
  • DTM Supervisors/Managers Course (Eastwood Park) or willingness to attend within first 6 months
Desirable criteria
  • Internal Auditor Course for the Quality Management System
