Job overview

Newcastle upon Tyne Trust is one of the biggest teaching hospitals in the UK and teaching and learning play a major part in their status as a Centre for excellence for Teaching.  To this end, the delivery of the Newcastle Medical School undergraduate curriculum plays a major part in training within the Newcastle Hospitals Trust and is essential in the development of the future medical workforce.

We are seeking an experienced administrator to join our Undergraduate Medical Education team.  You will provide strong administrative support to the key Undergraduate clinical and administrative team within the Newcastle Hospitals Trust.   You will act as first point of contact for the facilitation of the teaching centre.  In addition to this you will be responsible for supporting the team with the organisation and running of educational courses, events and exams throughout the academic year.

This will give you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and understanding of the medical career pathway for medical students/junior doctors.  In doing this you will also gain a broad understanding of the aims and visions of Newcastle Hospitals Trust and how education and training programmes enhance the patient and customer experience.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a high quality administrative service to undergraduate clinical and administrative staff in the delivery of the Newcastle Medical Student curriculum and assessments to ensure all learning outcomes are met.
  • You will be part of a diverse team which includes administrators, clinical leads, teaching fellows and 2 clinical educators.  We are a hardworking, supportive and dedicated team who collaborate to successfully delivery curriculum outcomes and end of year assessments. 
  • You will support the Undergraduate clinical and administrative team in planning and delivering intricate and complex teaching programmes which meet Medical School requirements.  This involves the identification of sufficient teaching room space and setting up the areas with relevant equipment and resources.  In addition you will monitor student attendance, record absences, and signpost student queries to relevant personnel.
  • The appointee will based at Eldon Court in Newcastle City Centre, a short walk from the Royal Victoria Infirmary,

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To provide a high quality administrative service to Junior Medical Staff / Medical Students and the Education Centre / Clinical Learning Centre acting as a first point of contact for customers using the centres.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to junior doctors / medical student induction, training, appraisal, competence assessment and education plans.
  • To administrate intricate and complex teaching programmes that meet curriculum requirements and Trust priorities.
