Job overview

The successful candidate will supervise a small team of Porters across both the Freeman and RVI sites. The primary role will be the provision of effective and efficient portering / postal services using all equipment and resources available to the department.

You will be responsible for the training, supervision and discipline of staff under your control, ensuring that all duties are carried out in a timely manner and that appropriate processes and policies are adhered to.

Please note, the successful candidate may be required to fulfil other portering duties such as the movement of patients, equipment and furniture, as the needs of the department dictate. Please see job description for further details.

Main duties of the job

Duties will include the close supervision of Portering staff based in post rooms across the Trusts main sites at the Freeman Hospital and the Royal Victoria Infirmary, ensuring appropriate utilisation and allocation of staff and resources, completion of duty rosters and adherence to departmental and Trust policies/procedures in all areas. 

You will be responsible for:

  • ensuring that the department provides an efficient and timely service to users at all times
  • the training, supervision, monitoring and appraisals of staff in the department
  • carrying out porters tasks as and when required 

The successful applicant will work on a dayshift basis, Monday to Friday, across the organisation, providing supervisory cover and supervision as per the needs of the business.

  • To assist the Portering / Security Manager in the provision of effective / efficient services using all equipment / resources available to the department
  • The post holder will be responsible for the supervision, discipline of staff under their control

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • The post holder will hold a NVQ level 4 or equivalent level qualification or equivalent level experience in a post office environment
  • Good standard of education
  • Willingness to complete in-house or external training
Desirable criteria
  • Current valid UK driving licence.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Good understanding of postal, policies, procedures and systems of operation
Desirable criteria
  • Supervisory / management experience

Skills & Abilities
