Job overview
Porters carry out a variety of essential tasks including; patient movement, collection of all waste streams, delivery/collection of linen and many other important duties that require a great deal of physical dexterity and the ability to function in a very fast paced and demanding environment. Many of the tasks can be particularly repetitive and physically demanding. Please see job description for further information. Shift times will vary, you will generally work 5 days out of 7 to meet the needs of the department.

Main duties of the job
Please note that Porters new to the Trust are required to work on a flexible basis covering a variety of shifts which will include some bank holiday and weekend working. The successful candidates will provide effective / efficient Portering services using all equipment and resources available to the department. Primary duties will be to ensure that patients are transported safely between wards and departments, the collection of all waste streams, delivery and collection of linen to wards and other associated tasks.

- To assist Trust management in the provision of effective / efficient Portering Service using all equipment / resources available to the department
Person specification
KNOWLEDGE
Desirable criteria
- Use of electrical equipment e.g; driving of tugs, use of hand-barrows etc
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of Portering tasks/Porters role
- Knowledge of Trust sites an advantage.
SKILLS
Essential criteria
- The post holder should be able to demonstrate good communication skills
Desirable criteria
- The post holder should be able to demonstrate previous experience working within a team
EXPERIENCE
Desirable criteria
- Experience in customer service or customer care
- Experience of working in a physically demanding environment (e.g: factory or warehouse)
- Previous fire training / fire warden experience
- Experience of mail sorting
QUALIFICATIONS
Desirable criteria
- NVQ 2 or similar qualifications (educated to Secondary Modern/Comprehensive School level)
