Our specialists deliver complex and minimally invasive x-ray guided procedures and are at the forefront of the very latest techniques in a fast paced, ever evolving specialism using image guidance covering many specialties including vascular, oncology, hepatobiliary, urology and
gastroenterology.
Newcastle Hospitals has an outstanding reputation for its Interventional Radiology expertise, providing life-saving diagnostic and therapeutic treatment for patients from all over the North East and North Cumbria. Newcastle’s main hospital sites at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman Hospital both benefit from pioneering Interventional Radiology departments so we are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Radiographer with an interest in Interventional Radiology to work within the Radiology department, Lithotripsy and the Interventional suites at Newcastle Upon Tyne NHS Trust.
The post will be based at the Freeman Hospital but there may be rotation to the Royal Victoria Infirmary Hospital if required. The Trust undertakes a wide range of interventional procedures and within our portfolio of equipment we have several high specification systems across both sites including a Siemens Pheno at the Freeman and a new Artis Q recently installed at the Royal Victoria site.

Main duties of the job
The post is ideal for a suitably experienced professionals to extend their skills and experience whilst working in a truly team-based environment.
The post offers a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in the whole range of examinations we undertake as a tertiary referral Trust. The post holder will work alongside the Team Lead Radiographers and Superintendent Radiographer in Interventional Radiology, Lithotripsy and Radiology at a time of development within our service. The Radiology department offers a broad range of modalities and full training will be provided to the successful candidates. The out of hours emergency IR services are provided via an on call service and the successful candidate will be expected to participate in this on call service. Previous IR experience is beneficial but is not imperative, as full training will be given.
The post will also include rotation into Lithotripsy and the Radiology department to meet the service requirements.
The post holder will take responsibility for producing images of a high standard, supervising and training of junior staff including radiography students and assistant practitioners.
Opportunities for further training and development are available. Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills are essential, and knowledge of the current radiation legislation is required.

- To be part of a team delivering a high quality efficient and effective radiographic service, to make an informed decision on the diagnostic images required and demonstrate a professional, caring and responsible approach to patients.
- There is a commitment to out of hour’s work and “on call” and extended working day duties within the imaging departments based at the Freeman and RVI site and with commitments to work within Radiology departments Trust wide when required.

Qualifications & Education
Essential criteria
- • HCPC registered, BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent
- • Post Graduate qualification in a clinical speciality, or post graduate specialist short courses or relevant specialist experience
Desirable criteria
- • ECDL qualification or equivalent IV cannulation competency
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- • Working knowledge of all relevant professional and NHS policies and procedures
- • Detailed knowledge and understanding of radiation protection and methods of reducing radiation dose as well as a working knowledge of ionising radiation legislation (IR (ME) R)
- • Evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
- • Experience of working in IR and the ability to perform examinations
Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria
- • Good organisational interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to work effectively in a team or independently as required
- • IT skills necessary for Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS)
