Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for full time band 4 Radiographic Assistant Practitioner to work within the Freeman Radiology Department at the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Department offers a broad range of modalities and full training will be provided to the successful candidate.

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides patient centred care across the city of Newcastle upon Tyne. There are two main hospital sites at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman Hospital, as well as several Community Outreach Centres. The Freeman Hospital houses the Institute of Transplantation, Renal Services and the Northern Centre for Cancer Care. The Royal Victoria Infirmary incorporates the Great North Trauma and Emergency Centre and the Great North Children’s Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The Radiology Department delivers high quality imaging across a range of modalities using a patient centred approach. The successful candidates would be expected to work as part of a team based at one of the Trust main sites, providing imaging across a range of modalities including intraoperative screening.

Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills are essential and knowledge of the current radiation legislation is required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Duties involve the production of specified radiographic imaging under the direct or indirect supervision of Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Radiographers within the parameters of the Assistant Practitioner role.
  • To assist with a range of clerical and patient related tasks within the department.
  • To assist in delivering high standards, by contributing to the department’s team approach to compassionate patient centred care.
  • To abide by the trust policies and procedures.

 

Person specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care (Radiography), HEFC Radiography or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • A working knowledge of radiation protection and methods of reducing patient radiation dose
  • Evidence of personal development such as attendance on study days, courses.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of patient confidentiality and data protection.
  • Previous experience within the radiology department.

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Able to work as part of a team and independently following agreed procedures and protocols.
  • Basic IT skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable criteria
  • IT skills (RIS and PACS)
