Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic proactive full time Band 7 Axial and Appendicular Plain Film Reporting Radiographer, to join our team at Newcastle Hospitals. 

The role requires working as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high quality care using a patient centered approach, whilst liaising with clinicians from other directorates and specialties.

The applicant must be a qualified Radiographer and have Axial and Appendicular Image interpretation qualifications and HCPC registration. 

Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills are essential and a detailed knowledge of the current legislation is required.

Main duties of the job

  • Report a variety of trauma and GP plain film  images to a high standard
  • Work as part of the reporting team supporting trainees and registrars
  • Work clinically alongside staff in the plain film environment
  • Work with the practice educators to ensure high quality of imaging throughout the department
  • Carry out regular audits to ensure high standards are maintained

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Trust wide responsibility for delivery of an effective and efficient high quality specialist axial and appendicular imaging service and patient care that meets the needs of patients and referrers. Provides highly specialist knowledge and care to patients.
  • Acts as the lead radiographer in specialist area providing direction to the staff and expert advice on specialist equipment to the directorate, as well as advice to users, patients, colleagues etc.
  • To contribute at a Trust wide level to the strategic development of specialist service in relation to axial and appendicular imaging and image interpretation, across the city.
  • Performs unsupervised image interpretation providing a written report on appropriate, selected imaging examinations in relation to the specialist area of this post.

Person specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • • Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC) registered, BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent qualification/experience
  • • MSc or post graduate specialist M-Level accredited training leading to formal qualifications in Medical Imaging and/or Radiographic Image Interpretation, plus specialist experience, knowledge and understanding in relation to Axial and Appendicular imaging and image interpretation
Desirable criteria
  • • Candidates to have undertaken relevant training, coaching, and courses in relation to the specialist area of this post e.g. Advancing Practice in Medical Imaging’ modules (level 7)

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Knowledge of Trust policies, professional issues and radiation protection regulations (IRM (E) R)
  • • Extensive knowledge of the guidelines relating to chest imaging and image interpretation

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • • Proven leadership and interpersonal/communication skills with evidence of participation in change management and practice development
  • • IT skills for Radiology Information Systems (RIS), Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) and OEM reporting workstations
  • • Experience of teaching and training staff
  • • Evidence of on-going continuous professional development (CPD)
