Job overview

We are seeking an experienced, dynamic, enthusiastic and highly specialized Cardiac Physiologist/Clinical Scientist to lead and develop our CRM and Invasive service here at UHCW Trust.

UHCW is one of the largest acute Trust’s in the country. With 17 Cardiology Consultants, we provide World Class innovation and research in all aspects of Cardiology.

The post holder will report to the Head of Cardiac Investigations Department, and be responsible for managing a team of Cardiac Physiologists, as well as supporting the training needs of junior physiologists and specialist registrars.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Main duties of the job

  1. To work independently as a highly specialist practitioner across the range of CRM devices and invasive procedures performed in the Cardiac Cath Lab.
  2. To actively contribute to service developments and expansion.
  3. To manage a team of Cardiac Physiologists, participate in appraisals and work to achieve agreed set objectives.
  4. Ensure relevant accreditation is maintained for self and team

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Have significant experience working independently as a band 7 specialist practitioner in CRM and Cath lab procedures and techniques. 
  • To provide operational management support to the DCI manager/Chief Clinical Physiologist for the specified area within Cardiac Investigations. 
  • To provide nationally accredited highly specialist expertise for clinical practice, ensuring that all procedures and data produced are to the required standard and are documented in accordance with Operational Procedures/national guidelines.
  • To work across all sites as required, managing the workload for your designated clinical area, ensuring effective workforce planning, maximized capacity and robust service delivery.
  • To ensure diagnostic tests are performed in accordance with protocols and diagnostic reports containing a range of complex facts and measurements are accurate and produced in a timely manner.
  • To actively contribute to service developments and expansion, taking part in Audits, Capacity and Demand planning and supporting business case developments.
  • Experienced in CP led services and how the implementation of such services would be introduced to UHCW, to drive efficiencies and meet capacity needs.      
  • To manage a team of cardiac physiologists, participate in appraisals and personal reviews and work to achieve agreed set objectives, including the required attendance of national and departmental meetings and nationally accredited courses.  
  • Ensure full BHRS/IBHRE accreditation is maintained for self and team.
  • Undertake further training as required for both professional development and service provision and be actively involved in clinical governance of service and service development. 
  • To manage financial budget and ensure adequate stock levels of consumables are maintained, to ensure effective utilization of resources and continual service delivery.
  • To support the Cardiology Operational Management Team in development and adherence of protocols and procedure guidelines, to ensure compliance with Trust/Operational requirements.
