Highly Specialised Cardiac Physiologist, Echo

Job overview

We are recruiting for a Chief Cardiac Physiologist for Echocardiography who will share our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

We offer a region-leading Cardiac Imaging Service, offering the full repertoire of echocardiography. Including Complex ACHD, 3D Echocardiography, Pharmacological and Exercise Ischaemic Stress Echo, Strain Echocardiography, TOE, DSE, Transcatheter Structural Intervention and Cardio-Oncology Echocardiography. As well as providing Advanced Cardiac Imaging input to regional hospitals and a range of West Midlands MDTs. In addition to UHCW we also support CDC services.

The successful candidate must be enthusiastic, hardworking, and motivated to join our team. You will need to have excellent communication skills with the ability to work both as part of a team and independently.

Suitable applicants will have completed a BSc in Clinical Physiology (or equivalent) and hold full BSE accreditation in Adult Transthoracic Echocardiography, as well as meeting the requirements detailed in the person specification and job description.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP. 

Main duties of the job

  • Be a competent practitioner in echocardiography procedures.
  • Have an advanced knowledge of products and procedures.
  • Be able to autonomously perform routine and complex diagnostic echocardiography procedures.
  • Be involved in supervision and training of other cardiac physiologists.
  • Participate on a roster basis as required.
  • Monitor and maintain quality of services within echocardiography.
  • Be willing to develop further highly technical specialist and advanced practical skills in complex echo service.
  • Participate in the day-to-day running of the department, ensuring the smooth running of a quality service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • In addition to the main duties, the successful candidate will be involved in the triaging and assessment of referred patients. 
  • Monitor the appropriateness of referrals, obtaining information relevant to patient care, interpreting, and reporting clinical findings and ensuring appropriate discharge or ongoing care.
  • Encourage and support staff to obtain BSE accreditation.
  • To provide teaching and support, to all members of the department and medical staff who are learning technical cardiology.To actively encourage and develop a multidisciplinary approach to cardiac care.
  • To ensure full national accreditation is maintained, undertake further training as required for both professional development and service provision.
