Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, experienced, and motivated Dietitian to join our dynamic and forward-thinking Dietetic team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW).
You will be working with neonate and paediatric inpatients at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire. Energy, vision and clinical expertise within this field is essential. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the current provision and future developments within paediatric and neonatal dietetic services at UHCW.
The Dietetic Department:-
We are a department of over seventy Dietitians with a variety of inpatient, outpatient and community adult and paediatric services. As a department we are actively involved in both research and audit and actively encourage staff to identify and attend courses relevant to their role and future development.
Paediatric Services:-
UHCW has one of the largest paediatric units in the West Midlands. Services for children are entirely provided from a dedicated Children’s Unit. At University Hospital there are 61 infant and children’s beds including a 12-bed adolescent unit, 6 High Dependency beds, 19 infant beds and 24 beds for older children, as well as a 6 bedded medical day unit.
Newborn Services:-
The hospital has a purpose-built Neonatal Unit with a capacity of 16 critical care cots (intensive care and high dependency) 8 special care cots and 12 transitional care cots.
Main duties of the job
You will collaboratively lead on the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based dietetic care for neonates, children and young people who access our services . This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop and influence dietetic services, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- To undertake complex dietetic / nutritional assessments (including interpretation of biochemistry, anthropometrics, clinical condition and diet history) to determine nutritional diagnosis
- Use expert clinical reasoning skills to provide highly specialist individual dietetic advice and treatment plans for patients who may present with multiple / highly complex clinical conditions taking into consideration patients own goals and incorporate discharge planning as appropriate
- Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment plans as required
- Communicate complex nutrition & dietetic information in an understandable form to staff, clients and carers using teaching, motivation & enhanced counselling skills including situations where there are barriers to change
- Take a lead on department audit & service development work (and research if appropriate to role), translating findings into practice
- Plan & norganise the supervision of student dietitians on clinical placement including planning, timetables & written assessments
Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

- Support teaching / nutrition education of peers and multi professional colleagues
- Engage in department and own CPD activities
- Cover the work of colleagues and deputise for senior colleagues during periods of absence or peak workloads
- Provide regular clinical supervision and support to junior colleagues
- Provide line management to junior colleagues.
