Job overview
The IBD CNS role will ensure a comprehensive service to all patients with inflammatory Bowel Disease within both in-patient and outpatient environments. A high profile, accessible and responsive leader with clinical responsibility for a defined patient group. Able to make informed decisions within their own area and scope of professional practice to ensure agreed standards, objectives and targets are met.

Main duties of the job
The post holder should be a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual, who is passionate about delivering high quality, compassionate care to patients in hospital and in the out-patient setting and who is equipped with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills. They will need to be able to work as a member of the MDT but also have ability to work autonomously. The ideal post holder will have knowledge and experience in working with/caring for patients with inflammatory bowel disease and have a desire to promote the values of the service through education and training. This role will focus on biologic nurse responsibilities, providing specialized care and support to patients undergoing biologic treatments for IBD

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Ensure own and others clinical practice is up to date, evidenced and research based.
- Prioritise, organise and manage own workload in a manner that maintains and promotes quality.
- Deliver care according to local and national guidelines ensuring delivery of evidence-based care and working towards the Trust vision of providing a world class service.
- Provide and facilitate high quality care for both in-patients and out-patients presenting with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
- To review inpatients with IBD ensuring best practice has been instigated and ensure relevant tests are done in a timely manner to prevent any delays in further treatment.
- Exercise a high degree of personal and professional autonomy demonstrating an advanced level of specialist knowledge.
- Provide a nurse-led clinic service for patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
- Ability to communicate complex diagnosis and patient plans under supervision.
- To have highly developed communication skills enabling maintenance of a high-quality service and ensuring timely management and resolution of unexpected events or situations.
- To run a clinic for stable IBD patients and escalate appropriately where necessary.
- Administering biologic therapies, and monitoring patient responses.
- Educating patients on biologic treatments and self-care management.
- Preparing patients to start biologic therapies, including assessing eligibility, conducting necessary pre-treatment tests, and providing comprehensive education on treatment protocols and potential side effects including bluteqs.
- Responsible for identifying and assessing clinical and non-clinical issues, implementing resolutions and monitoring/auditing outcomes e.g., to blood monitor for possible side effects of drug treatments.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to optimise patient outcomes and attend weekly MDT meetings.
