Clinical Scientist, Non-Ionising Radiation

Job overview

The non-ionising section of Radiology Physics provides clinical and non-clinical scientific and technical services in diagnostic radiology physics and expert advice on the ionising radiation protection of patients, staff and the general public to the Trust and to client health care organisations throughout Warwickshire and Northamptonshire.

Applications are invited for this full time post in Radiology Physics.  Suitable candidates will preferably have attained HCPC registration, however candidates who are close to achieving state registration will also be considered for appointment at a lower grade in the first instance.

Please be advised that a trainee candidate will be considered if a successful band 7 candidate is not appointed. If appointed as a trainee you will be paid at 60% of Band 7 salary (Annex 21) until in competencies are achieved. This would be expected to take up to 4 years.

A full UK driving license is essential for this role. Please note that an international driving license is not accepted.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP. 

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join a team of Clinical Scientists and Technicians led by a Consultant Clinical Scientist.  The post holder will be involved in the provision of scientific and technical advice in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, lasers and ultraviolet radiation to ensure that NHS Trusts and other organisations can image and treat patients effectively and safely.

The role will also involve protocol development, teaching, QA, safety audits and research.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Provide scientific expertise in all aspects of magnetic resonance techniques, ultrasound and NIR, equipment and quality assurance procedures.
  • Assist in service development in MRI in liaison with physicists, medical staff, radiographers and managers. Develop, implement and evaluate novel imaging techniques for use in the clinical setting
  • Assist in the provision of a comprehensive equipment quality assurance program for MRI, Ultrasound and NIR.
  • Assist in the provision of NIR safety advice for patients and staff of UHCW Trust and to other NHS Trusts and clinics with whom the Trust has contracts.
