As a Paediatric Epilepsy Nurse Specialist, you’ll step into a role that’s dynamic, autonomous and deeply impactful. You’ll become a trusted expert for children and young people living with epilepsy — guiding families, influencing care pathways, and making sure every child receives safe, effective, compassionate support.
Working closely with our Paediatric ANP for Epilepsy, Consultant team, and wider MDT, you’ll be at the heart of a service that blends clinical excellence with genuine human connection.
Main duties of the job
To provide a specialist service to children and young people with epilepsy and their carers within UHCW NHS Trust. This will be in collaboration with the Epilepsy team and extended multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will work across the UHCW and Rugby St Cross site, whilst occasionally needing to attend meetings within the community.
The post holder will be involved in developing and delivering expert patient-centred care based on local and national guidance. Care delivered will include patient assessment, planning and implementing of specialist care, provision of advice/support and education in collaboration with the wider MDT including child protection/safeguarding teams.
The post holder will be involved in audit and research, participate in network meetings and provide education to medical and nursing staff within the unit in order to improve quality and enhance care delivery.
Secondment will be considered for internal candidates – If you are successful after interview, you must obtain approval from your current line manager to accept the offer.
Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Assist in reviewing patients within the unit, both in the acute and outpatient setting.
- Provide expert advice and support and be involved in the planning and implementation of patient specific care. Care must be communicated effectively in the form of a care plan which will be developed in collaboration with the child/young person and family.
- Act as an advocate for child/young person and family ensuring that their views are sought and considered when planning care and in the development of services.
- Ensure referrals needed are requested in a timely manner and to assist with the coordination of investigations.
- Act as an expert and resource by providing age appropriate education and information to the person with epilepsy, their family and/or carers around epilepsy related issues e.g. management of epilepsy, lifestyle and recreation, safety, schools etc. in a timely manner.
- Assist in managing a telephone and email service to deal with queries and concerns, utilising support and advice from the lead ENS/Consultant when appropriate.
- To participate in the development of care pathways for the child and young person with epilepsy including transitional care into adult services.
- To work within the multi-disciplinary team to attend meetings including child protection to ensure safe and effective care delivery.
- Deliver patient care autonomously, consistent with their level of expertise.
- Maintains accurate patient records in notes and on clinical systems.
