Job overview
The post holder will work within the senior paediatric nursing and paediatric practice education teams to provide both clinical and educational support to the paediatric nursing workforce. A key focus of the role is supporting newly qualified nurses throughout their preceptorship year.
In collaboration with ward managers, the post holder will play a significant role in supporting staff in the clinical environment to achieve required competencies. This includes working closely with multidisciplinary teams to plan training, facilitate development, and enable access to clinical learning opportunities beyond their designated clinical areas

Main duties of the job
- Ensure that all Trust wide standards are maintained and monitored to improve the quality of total care to all who encounter the Children’s Services.
- Comply with health and safety legislation, promoting high standards and acting immediately in response to hazards or unsafe practices in conjunction with other staff.
- Participate in team, professional and personal development activities and promote a commitment to continuous professional development and improvement.
- Take on agreed duties in accordance with the grade and nature of the post.
- Cover the work of colleagues during periods of absence or peak workloads.
- Carry out other duties commensurate with the grade and nature of the post as designated by the Group Director of Nursing / Modern Matron / Band 7 Practice Educator

- ccountable for own actions in accordance with the code of Professional Conduct.
- Work clinically alongside nurses who are new starters, newly qualified or require specific support
- Support nursing team to audit and evaluate nursing care.
- Promote best practice in line with current paediatric national and local guidelines
- Promote best practice in ensuring NMC documentation Standards set out in the NMC Code of Professional standards of practice for nurses, midwifes and nursing associates
- Act as a clinical role model promoting the professional image of nursing within the Trust and ensuring that nursing practice is in accordance with the Trust’s policies and procedures and statutory nursing bodies’ legislation.
- Establish good working relationships with multidisciplinary colleagues within the Trust.
- Maintain own clinical competency in line with the NMC Code of Professional standards of practice for nurses, midwifes and nursing associates
- Available to be rostered for a minimum of one clinical shift per month, this may be increased dependent on service need

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Current Professional Registration either RSCN, or RN Child • Evidence of continuous professional development • Practice assessor / Mentor and assessing qualification • Study at level 6 (degree / diploma)
Desirable criteria
- • Teaching and Assessing Qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Recent Professional general clinical experience within an acute Paediatric setting • Evidence of implementing change in clinical practice • Evidence of experience working with students/ preceptees / trainee nursing associates in a clinical setting
Desirable criteria
- • Experience in research or audit • Experience in caring for children and young people displaying escalating behaviours
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- • A sound knowledge of professional policies and procedures • A sound understanding of the role of the Trainee nursing associate / nursing associate • Knowledge of clinical governance and a commitment to clinical supervision and staff development
Desirable criteria
- • A good understanding of current issues relating to the NHS. • Experience in Policy/Service Development • Leadership and supervisory skills
