An exciting opportunity has become available within the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire Community Palliative Care team to work as a Specialty Doctor in Palliative Medicine.

This post is a great vehicle for a motivated and interested doctor to gain experience in caring for and treating patients with life-limiting illness and complex needs in the community.

The successful candidate will work in a highly supportive environment, working closely with a consultant in palliative medicine and a vibrant multi-disciplinary team. They will work alongside, and support patients known to the multidisciplinary team providing high quality, timely, patient-centred care for patients known to the Coventry Community Specialist Palliative Care Team, Rapid Response, Palliative Support Team and Integrated Neighbourhood Teams.

This role requires domiciliary visits by the successful candidate, therefore a full UK driving license and access to a car is required, to provide this cross city service. 

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to work with the Coventry Community Integrated Palliative care team as a Palliative Medicine Speciality doctor. This role provides an opportunity to work 3 days a week with the team providing Palliative Medicine expertise to the multi-disciplinary team in the community setting. The successful candidate will work in a highly supportive environment, working closely with Consultant in Palliative medicine and a vibrant multi-disciplinary team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are looking for a confident, flexible and adaptable person who thrives on challenges and variety. They should be able to cope with prioritising, managing a busy workload and working with indirect supervision, asking for guidance and support as required. The appointee will be skilled in working as part of a dynamic community multi-disciplinary team, able to communicate with a wide range of patient groups and colleagues. The main role will be to provide specialist palliative medicine assessment and advice independently and supporting multi-disciplinary team colleagues.

Job Responsibilities

As part of Palliative care multi-disciplinary team, the post holder will deliver high quality professional care to patients and those important to them in the community. You will work closely with the clinical team to ensure we offer the highest standard of care.

Responsibilities

  • To work with Consultants in Palliative medicine to deliver high quality palliative care.
  • Undertake medical assessment, diagnosis and management of patients in community.
  • Initiate appropriate medical care and prescribe appropriately in line with policies and guidelines.
  • Work with MDT to initiate appropriate investigations and treatment.
  • Provide telephone or remote support to the team or other health care professionals.
  • Supportive communication with patients and their carers regarding their disease and its management.
  • Communicate clearly with colleagues and other professionals supporting patient care.
  • Record in clinical notes in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate in CPD, appraisal and revalidation.
