Clinical Sister / Charge Nurse-Interventional Radiology

NHS AfC: Band 6

Job overview

Have you ever thought about a nursing career in one the fastest growing specialities in UHCW?

Interventional Radiology forms part of our major trauma centre at UHCW, helping to serve our community for elective and emergency procedures.

We can be found on the ground floor, within the radiology department which forms a huge speciality hub at UHCW.

We have an enthusiastic and ambitious nursing team, including the first Interventional Radiology Advanced Nurse Practitioner- Daisy award winner Yossi Sahin. Working in IR offers an exciting and diverse development programme which includes conscious sedation administration, recovery skills, post graduate level 7 opportunities and advancing career pathways.

Good mental health and well-being are strongly supported in the team with our own professional nurse advocate, a shared decision council as well as team building days/nights out and listening events, with a range of methods of entry for recruitment to the team, including direct applications on NHS jobs, UHCW internal transfers, 12-month secondment and overseas recruitment.

If you would like to know more, we would love you to come to the department and meet us for an informal tour, you can also contact the nurse manager Simone Abel on 02476966976

As a Band 6 Interventional Radiology Nurse, you will provide clinical leadership, clinical expertise and management support.

Main duties of the job

You will scrub for interventional procedures, monitor and recover patients, and administer intravenous conscious sedation, recovery of patients following sedation and general anaesthetic, pre assess IR day case patients, ward assessment as well as care of the acutely unwell within the Radiology department.

As a band 6 IR nurse you will act as the nurse in charge of shifts as well as being first on call for emergency call outs.

The Band 6 role will involve direct support to your line manager, with clinical responsibilities, alongside acting up in their absence

We provide placements for Nursing and Radiography students, as well as supporting newly qualified nurses and nurse associates in the team, so this role will require you to practice as a Nurse assessor, and Nurse preceptor

The department offers a variety of shifts with a rotational commitment to being on an on call rota overnight and weekends.

You must must also be physically fit enough to be able to wear lead protection clothing during our interventional radiology procedures.

Come and join our exciting dynamic team. Due to a redevelopment of the department our service has  expanded and evolved to provide for the increased demand for Interventional Radiological procedures.

This will provide you with a highly innovative and interesting working environment.

Please be advised there is a proposed interview date of 17th May.
