Specialist Radiotherapy Physics Technician

Job overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and capable service engineer to join the Radiotherapy Physics team at Coventry. The successful candidate will join a team of specialist engineers led by our technical manager to provide repair, maintenance and development services to the Arden Cancer Centre (ACC). We are located on the University Hospital site at Walsgrave which is on the edge of historic Coventry with convenient transport to the city and easy access to rural Warwickshire, the M6 and the M69 motorways.
Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
Main duties of the job
Duties will include all aspects of the repair and planned maintenance of medical linear accelerators and ancillary equipment.
The ACC is equipped with five Elekta linacs, an orthovoltage treatment machine and Elekta HDR brachytherapy after loader. All of our linacs are equipped with Agility heads and cone beam CT. Manufacturer and in-house technical and scientific training will be provided as required.
The Radiotherapy Physics department has an active research and development programme with which the post holder will be encouraged to engage with.
A relevant degree or a technical qualification and proven experience in radiotherapy engineering is required. Experience in medical linear accelerators is essential. Applicants with less experience may be considered and initially appointed on a lower band.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To provide expertise in one or more fields of mechanical engineering, electronics, computing and networking in the maintenance service to the highly complex radiotherapy equipment used for treating cancer patients.
- To participate in the maintenance service to the highly complex radiotherapy equipment used for treating cancer patients. In particular: linear accelerators, orthovoltage therapy x-ray machines, High Dose Rate after-loading machine and dosimetry equipment.
- To technically interpret reports from radiographers; and to discuss complex aspects of linear accelerator operation with scientists, technologists and manufacturers engineers with regard to fault diagnosis, equipment maintenance and innovative device development and modification
